Rule update for 1 Oct 2017

Hi All

Please find attached a rule update for the Novice Winter Championships in relation to numbers to qualify. As we are moving to Arena UK we have more space to hold an additional arena, so no longer have to limit numbers to per test. No Appendix 11 for this unless you use more arenas than required.

In relation to the Novice and Intermediate Dressage, I am working on a proposal to discuss with all attendees at the next Forum, then Rachael and Laura will discuss whilst out on the road and also with all competitors. Sorry I have not had a chance to work on this much before now, but will hit this full swing after Lincoln.

In the meantime, if you need to restrict your numbers at the qualifier to make numbers manageable then that’s fine, but ensure that it is clearly communicated to all of your area as we would not monitor any restrictions the area puts in place in the office. Any restrictions need to be carefully considered as to the impact on your entries as every club needs to have a fair chance to enter i.e. you cannot accept 4 team entries from one club but then tell another they can only make 1 team entry. Obviously if you are running open classes alongside then ideally these would be dropped to allow for the qualifier to take precedence.

Hope that helps those that struggled last year until we find a solution that fits as many areas as possible without causing the smaller areas to dwindle.

Many Thanks

Jennie Pallett

BRC Afilliation fees

I can confirm that after remaining static for the past few years, the ‘per head’ fee will increase from £11.50 to £12.00 for next year.

Safety talk

Alan Hiscox, the BHS Director of Safety has very kindly offered to attend any Club / Area evenings to talk about the recent BHS ‘Dead Slow – Riders Responsibilities’ campaign.

The presentation lasts approximately 45 minutes with the option of a Q & A session afterwards. This presentation is very interactive and will update and inform riders of the Dead Slow Campaign and how the BHS is encouraging riders to know their responsibilities, as well as drivers, in order to increase the safety of vulnerable road users, with updates regarding how we are working with the Motor Cycle Industry and Cycling UK.

When these presentations have been organised for BHS committees, the local police and even some legal representatives have been happy to come along and take part in the session. This is something that could certainly be replicated should a BRC Area / Club wish.

The sessions would need to be organised by the Area / Clubs themselves, but the BHS Safety Department can certainly assist with this.

The presentations that have already been done have attracted audiences of 60/70 and have been very well received.

There is no cost for Alan’s time or travel, so it’s a really good opportunity to put on an interesting and informative talk for members.

If anyone is interested, please contact Alan directly alan.hiscox@bhs.org.uk or Emily, the Safety Administrator emily.yates@bhs.org.uk .

BRC Club Training

BRC will shortly be organising some club training days:

29 October – North, Northallerton Hotel TBC

4 November – East, College of West Anglia, Cambridge Campus.

5 November – Midlands, BHS HQ.

11 November – South, Brinsbury College.

12 November – West, Hartpury College.

Apologies if any of these dates fall on qualifier weekends,  it is really hard to fit these dates in and we just had to go with it! Really these days are aimed at club committees rather than members so hopefully some club representatives will be able to attend.

The days will consist of training in the morning on insurance, safeguarding and BRC opportunities. In the afternoon we have secured speakers from Sport England who will take us through finance and tax implications for clubs, and club structures. The two Sport England sessions will take place at the same time so ideally clubs will send two representatives who will each attend a different session in the afternoon.  Attendees will be required to pay a £10 deposit which will be refunded to them if they attend the day.

It doesn’t matter which day clubs attend, if they need to attend a session out of area that is fine. It would be great to see as many area reps at the various dates as possible, please do let us know so that we can cater for you.

Kind regards
Rachael Hollely-Thompson

Steward training

Dear All

I have had a conversation with BRC and they understand we are at a crisis point in Area 12 with the running of events and also a huge lack of official stewards within the area. There is currently only 2 of us qualified. We have one of the largest areas in the country yet the lowest amount of OS available for Area events

Most other areas have roughly 8 people qualified at one time. Due to these numbers we have been given special permission to send as many people as needed to the OS training weekend in February 2018. It is an extremely good weekend and well worth going,  all paid for by BRC.  Fantastic trainers, coaches and hospitality.
Would you like to be put forward as an official steward? If this role appeals please do let me or the Area committee know and we will put your name forward.  The more people we have the lighter the load.  You also meet some lovely people.
Kindest regards
