BHS Ride Out Week

The BHS’s Ride Out UK Week (formerly known as Access Week) is taking place on 28 May – 5 June and they want you to get involved!  Organise a pleasure ride for your club, join a prepared ride, or hold a social event.

The week celebrates and raises awareness of safe off-road access in your area, and applauds the fantastic efforts of the BHS’s UK-wide volunteer team, bridleway groups, local authorities and others to keep these off-road routes open for riders now and in future generations. With the money raised The Society can carry on defending extending and promoting your safe off-road routes through the BHS Paths for Communities Fund.

With over 2,000 reports of road incidents being reported to The British Horse Society in five years, it’s more imperative than ever to keep off-road routes open to riders. So get involved and saddle up & explore the scenic route and log how many miles you’ve done on the BHS Hoof O’meter.

Prizes will be going out to the for the individual and group who raises the most amount of money – so see what your club can do to fundraise.

Find out more, get inspiration and have a look at the photo competition on the BHS website, www.bhs.org.uk/rideoutuk.

BEF Hoof Capital Funding 2016 – Applications Now Open

BEF Hoof Capital Funding 2016 – Applications Now Open

Are you a BRC Club or Centre looking to improve your riding establishment in order to enhance participation?

Over the last three years the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) has invested over £500,000 into riding centres and organisations to help increase participation in equestrian sports. The Hoof Capital Funding scheme is provided by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport through the Government agency, Sport England.

The BEF has launched its 2016 Capital Funding programme on 1 April and will again provide two schemes, both designed to support the development of equestrian facilities that will contribute to helping increase participation of riding, driving and vaulting in England.

Bids submitted should be for no less than £1,000 and no more than £25,000, whilst the preferred bid level is between £10,000 and £15,000. Grants will be awarded to those projects that can clearly deliver increased participation for equestrianism and have a positive sustainable impact to their local community.

Projects which are awarded funding will need to demonstrate the funded project is able to be completed by 31st March 2017.

If you are interested in applying for funding, expressions of interest (Stage 1) should be received by the British Equestrian Federation by Friday 29th April 2016.

All applicants will be notified by Monday 9th May 2016 whether their expression of interest has been successful or not. Successful applicants will then be required to submit a full application (Stage 2) by Friday 3rd June 2016. Confirmation will be given to successful applicants after this second stage by Friday 20th June 2016.

For application forms and further information please visit the Hoof website.

BRC Grassroots XC Flyer 2016 (2)

BRC have launched an exclusive new training initiative aimed at the true grass roots BRC member. The days are designed for riders who have never really had a go at cross country riding but would relish the opportunity to learn how to participate correctly with instruction from some of the best trainers in the country. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and riders will be grouped according to ability with each session having a maximum of 5 riders and any jumps used on the day will be at a maximum of 65 /75 cm. All of the dates and venues can be found on the training pages of the BRC website along with a promotional poster with additional information. Riders can download the booking form from the website. Once completed, the booking form must be sent to the BRC Head Office with a cheque for the full amount (cheques will be returned to unsuccessful applicants).

Combinations are not eligible for this training if:

  • They have entered a BRC Qualifier with a Cross Country element at any height
  • Completed any BE event

Message to Club Secretaries from HQ

It is really important that when you submit your membership lists to us, you either send us a full members list with the new members CLEARLY HIGHLIGHTED, or send us a list of the NEW MEMBERS ONLY for that month. When Membership Secretaries send us full list of members, without highlighting which are the new ones, then the entire list gets sent to the mailing house and so members are receiving multiple membership cards – one every time their name is submitted.

We have also found some Clubs who are putting a member on their master list more than once, and giving them more than one membership number. Again this means that multiple cards get sent out to that person, and of course there is a cost implication to this.

We have attached our datasheet on how to submit your lists for your information. If you have any queries at all, then please do get back to us.
