Treborough Cross Country is a stunning venue on The Brendon Hills in Somerset (between Raleghs Cross and Wheddon Cross) with views to Dunkery Beacon and across the Bristol Channel to Wales (on a clear day!)
We are looking for volunteers for our British Eventing Horse Trials in 2013 and would be pleased to hear from anyone with an interest in horses and the sport of Eventing.
You will be looked after with refreshments
and given the opportunity to win tickets to a major BE event (through a national prize draw).
Experience preferred but not essential. There are many roles available, at Dressage, Show jumping or Cross Country or if you would prefer to steer clear of the horses themselves, there are jobs in the equally essential areas such as catering, hospitality, car parking!!
The dates are Sat 22nd and Sun 23rd June / Sun 25th and Bank Holiday Monday 26th August.
Please contact Sarah Weatherlake via the phone number or email address above or email helen@bovey2.eclipse.co.uk. We will be very pleased to hear from you!!
A successful day for Midsomerset and Sid & Otter
qualifying one of their senior teams and Sid & Otter their Junior Team, they all go forward to the Championships over Easter. Well done.
There were 28 senior teams and 6 junior teams competing on the day, which meant for a busy day and as you may know we had to sadly ballot some teams, mainly due to lack of hours of day light.
As the competition had had a change of date and venue many of SWDG were unable to help on the day, although they did the organisation beforehand, Lucy Greenwood, Tracy Scammell and Carolyn Price, but most clubs provided a helper so everything ran smoothly. Many thanks go to June & Helen Pavey, (Quantock) Jackie Meakes, (West Somerset) Helen Goff, (Witheridge) Amanda Champion and Pat Etherington, (Blackdown Hills) Sue Parsons, ( Blackdown Mendip) Mike Cooper, (RNRMEA) Margaret Toye ( Taunton) Margaret Peverley, ( Mid Somerset) Roger Trivett and Cheryl, one handed Beer ( Sid & Otter) Anna Butcher and Adam Ewell (Lamberts Castle).
Adam Ewell and David Batten must have a special mention as they did an amazing job fitting all the lorries and trailers in , and getting them out again !
Thanks must also go to Alice Greenwood who escaped from London for the weekend, Sally Batten, Susan Harris, Sarah Wadey and Helen Dunning for supporting SWDG on the day.
I hope all those that were there enjoyed their day, it was great to see lots of happy, sometimes nervous faces, out and about on their horses !

A training/ information event at The Conquest Centre, Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton on Weds 10th April has been arranged in conjunction with RDA Somerset.
In the morning, there will be an opportunity to have your hats and body protectors checked for fit by BETA. An Area 12 steward will also be available to check and tag hats which meet the required standard for BRC qualifiers (all RC members should be encouraged to wear this standard of hat at club level). Body
protectors can also be checked by the steward as the standard has been changed from previous years.
Jon Pitts will do a demonstration/ workshop in the afternoon. This will summarise his classroom type presentation (which many of us may have seen already) and then take this a few stages further with “real” horse/rider combinations.
If you have not heard of Jon or been to one of his presentations, here is some background:
Jon is a Human Performance Coach who has previously worked with the GB World Class squad and now is helping the Equestrian Australia High Performance Programme. His initiative Fit to Ride is designed to apply the knowledge taken from research and development and experience gained with these elite athletes to bring better, safer riding to the wider equestrian public through new Performance, Confidence and Safety Programmes. See website www.fittoride.org or follow Jon on Facebook, Twitter or his Horse Hero blog.
The cost of the Fit to Ride presentation will be £5 per person, payable in advance.
There may also be the opportunity for 1:1 sessions with Jon afterwards and anyone interested in booking one of these sessions is asked to contact helen@bovey2.eclipse.co.uk for further details (away skiing 23rd Feb – 2nd Mar). He usually charges around £75 per person for a 1:1 but we anticipate the cost will be quite a bit less than this.
